8 arrested over sale and distribution of imitation goods

A series of recent police raids in Geylang, Tanjong Pagar, Simei and Bedok managed to nab a total of eight suspects over their alleged involvement in the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods.

The suspects — five men and three women aged between 29 and 72 — are believed to be involved in selling their imitation wares at makeshift stalls, commercial buildings and online. The goods comprised mobile phones and accessories, luxury watches, handbags, costume jewellery and ladies wear.

A total of 3,000 counterfeit goods with an estimated street value of nearly $100,000 were seized.

Investigations are ongoing. If the suspects are found guilty of selling, distributing infringing goods with falsely applied trade marks they could be fined up to $100,000 and/or imprisoned for up to five years.
