73-year-old woman dies after getting pinned under 550kg horse at Punggol Ranch

In a tragic turn of events at the popular Punggol Ranch last Saturday, an elderly woman died after being pinned under a 550kg horse.

Lianhe Wanbao reports that her family had gone to the ranch’s Gallop Stable for a staycation, and the 73-year-old woman had been perched on top of a horse. Reporters were informed that the accident transpired after a trainer hit the rump of the horse several times.

The elderly lady, known only by her surname of Lim, had to hold on tight as the agitated horse ran in circles and refused to approach the ramp so that she could dismount. The horse suddenly reared backwards, and Lim fell on the ground — the horse lost its balance too and landed on top of her.

For about five minutes, Lim was pinned under the horse. When the horse got up, Lim’s grandson tried to perform CPR on her, but believed that her chest had been crushed by the impact.

An ambulance arrived soon after and conveyed the unconscious lady to Changi General Hospital. She did not survive the injuries.

Lim’s family are now furious over the accident and how the Punggol Ranch staff handled the matter. They asserted that they would pursue legal action against the ranch for possible negligence.

Internal investigations are ongoing at the ranch.
