URA announces 70 buildings to be gazetted for conservation

The Urban Redevlopment Authority (URA) announced on Nov. 20 that it will gazette 70 buildings — on top of the 7,100 buildings already protected — for conservation purposes as part of its Draft Master Plan 2013.

Sites include former military buildings at Seletar, the Garage at Singapore Botanic Gardens, former Insitute of Health and Singapore’s first library, Queenstown Library.

The safeguarding of built heritage and areas of national identity through conservation efforts is one of URA’s strategies to make Singapore a more endearing home.

A month-long exhibition for the Draft Master Plan 2013 is currently happening at the URA Centre through Dec. 19, where the public is welcome to provide feedback.
