7 teens slapped 15-year-old girl to ‘teach her a lesson’; one burnt her thighs with a cigarette

Last December, seven female teenagers, aged 13 to 17, assaulted a 15-year-old girl because they thought she was arrogant and wanted to ‘teach her a lesson’. At around 3pm on December 20, the group hunted down the victim at the void deck of Block 231, Hougang Street 21, and took turns to slap her face before shoving her to the ground and warning her not to make a police report. One of them, Anna Belle Tan Yee Min, now 17, burnt her thighs with a lit cigarette.

The girl lodged a report on January 11. Then at midnight on January 31, Tan and another attacker ran into the victim at Cheers in Hougang Central. Tan asked whether the victim would ‘drop the case’, but she called her mother, who told the two teens to back off or they’d be filing another police report.

Unfortunately, that didn’t do the victim any good, as Tan flung ice lemon tea at her and slapped her cheek before issuing her another warning.

Yesterday, Tan was sentenced to 21 months’ probation and pleaded guilty to one charge of rioting and one of causing hurt. Previous incidents of her slapping two other 14-year-old girls were brought up in court, and those two charges of causing hurt were considered in the sentencing.
