7 radicalised foreign domestic workers repatriated to home countries

Over the past two years, there have been a total of seven foreign domestic workers radicalised through the internet, Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam revealed in Parliament yesterday.

They didn’t have any plans to carry out violent attacks in Singapore during the period of time they were investigated, but Shanmugam believed their presence to be a security concern nonetheless. The workers were repatriated to their home countries.

“…their interactions with others showed that they had bought into radical ideologies and were on a dangerous path,” the minister stated in a written reply to a Parliamentary question asking for an update on the issue.

Security agencies will continue to monitor and investigate individuals suspected of being radicalised, regardless of nationality.
