7 Letters, the only SG50 film worth watching, selected as Singapore’s entry to Oscars

The only SG50 related movie that was actually good (because 1965 was a piece of shit) has been chosen as Singapore’s entry to the Oscars.

7 Letters — the heartwarming anthology film featuring shorts by local auteurs Royston Yan, Eric Khoo, Tan Pin Pin and more — was selected to run in the Oscars’ Best Foreign Language Film category.

Chosen by a committee of six established members of the local film industry, 7 Letters was evaluated on its execution, production quality, originality, entertainment value and performance of the director(s) and cast.

The cinematic love letter to Singapore came out  to rave reviews and high public demand for screenings, such that its run extended from the Capitol Theatre to the National Museum of Singapore and on to Golden Village cinemas.

It’s seven local directors doing what they do best in presenting Singapore as it is, warts and all. Just watching 30 minutes of the movie puts 1965 to shame.

The Oscar nominations for next year will be announced on Jan 14.
