62,000 police cameras now installed in 10,000 HDB blocks and multi-storey carparks

Under the PolCam 1.0 initiative, the police have now successfully installed more than 62,000 cameras in 10,000 HDB blocks and multi-storey carparks, all of which will help to deter and solve crimes in Singapore. As of May this year, 2,300 video footage clips from the cameras proved useful in solving over 1,100 cases, some of which included theft, unlicensed moneylending and outrage of modesty.

More cameras will continue to pop up at new Build-To-Order HDB blocks and multi-storey carparks. Plus, the new PolCam 2.0 — to be completed by December 2020 — will increase its reach to public areas in neighbourhood centres, hawker centres and more. The first few cameras, which come with pan-tilt-zoom functions and 360-degree views, have already been installed at Ang Mo Kio Town Centre, Bedok Town Centre and Jurong Gateway.
