A Bangladeshi man has been sentenced to prison and caning after he was found to have attempted to rape an Indonesian domestic helper in broad daylight.
The victim had been on the way to a nearby mall in the morning of Nov 3, 2013 to buy breakfast for her employer’s family.
33-year-old cleaner Mohd Nurul Islam Md Hatem lured an Indonesian maid to a multi-storey carpark, slapping and biting her before violating her with his finger, The Straits Times reported. During the violent struggle, Nurul Islam ran out of steam and stopped the whole thing altogether.
In court today, he was sentenced to serve six years in prison and and eight strokes of the cane.
