6 arrested for using electronic devices to cheat slot machines at MBS and RWS casinos

Using electronic gadgets, six people managed to somehow hack and cheat slot machines at both the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) and Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) casinos.

Police have since arrested the group of three men and three women — aged between 33 and 41 — comprising of one Czech, four Russians and one Filipino.

Officers from the Casino Crime Investigation Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were alerted to the case on May 7 and quickly established the identities of the suspects. The next day, CID executed a coordinated operation that nabbed four suspects at the casinos and two other at a hotel in Tanjong Pagar. 16 mobile phones, a laptop, cash and other items worth over $125,000 were seized as evidence.

Investigations revealed that they are believed to have used electronic devices to commit cheating while betting at the slot machines. If convicted, they might face up to seven years in jail or a maximum fine of $150,000.
