On Tuesday evening, police were alerted to a case at a landed property in Telok Kurau at 8.48pm. The motionless body of a 59-year-old woman was found and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, and her 23-year-old maid was arrested for the alleged murder.
Apparently, it was the daughter-in-law of the deceased who made the police report, saying there was a commotion in the toilet on the second level. By the time the victim’s husband rushed to help, the domestic helper had reportedly stepped out holding a bloodied knife. He immediately tried to disarm her, but was injured in the process.
The maid, believed to be an Indonesian, was eventually subdued with the aid of three motorcyclists — a mechanic and two construction workers from Malaysia — who were in the vicinity. They said the 57-year-old husband had neck injuries, and the maid sustained injuries to her hand and forehead. Both were sent to Changi General Hospital.
Police have classified the case as murder, and investigations are ongoing. The motive for the attack is still unknown.
