55 active dengue clusters in Singapore; 213 new dengue cases last week

Last week, 213 new dengue cases were reported in Singapore, according to the National Environment Agency. Another 36 cases surfaced between Sunday and yesterday afternoon. As of now, there are 55 active dengue clusters in the country, with the biggest in the area by Geylang and Guillemard Road, where 58 cases originated.

Since the start of 2016, a total of 7,968 dengue cases have been reported, and four people have died so far — two men and two women aged from 47 to 73. The Ministry of Health and NEA have warned the public that the number of cases may rise to over 30,000 this year, surpassing the record of 22,170 in 2013.

On NEA’s dengue website, vigilance from homeowners is encouraged to prevent mosquito breeding as Singapore enters into peak dengue season. Seems like most mosquito breeding habitats are still found in houses, in places like flower pot plates and domestic containers. So keep a look out, be vigilant, and remember — if they breed, you bleed.
