While Singapore awaits the construction of a hyper fast train service that promises to scoot passengers to and fro Kuala Lumpur in 90 minutes, folks can get a small taste of what it’s like shuttling across borders on a train this July with a new Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) initiative.
The Malaysian rail operator announced that their subsidiary KTM Intercity will start offering super-cheap shuttle train services from Johor Bahru Sentral to Woodlands from Jul 1 onwards, Bernama reports.
With tickets costing as little as RM5 from JB Sentral and SGD5 from Woodlands for one-way trips, the Shuttle Tebrau service aims to reduce congestion at the Johor Causeway with seven daily trips between the two countries.
Shuttle services from JB Sentral Station will start as early as 5.30am and end at 10pm, while the service from Woodlands Station will start at 6.30pm and end at 11pm.
This would also mean that all current KTM Intercity train services including the Tren Rakyat (Butterworth-Woodlands), Tren Sinaran Selatan (KL Sentral-Woodlands), Tren Sutera (KL Sentral-Woodlands) and Gemas-Woodlands will end at JB Sentral Station instead of crossing the borders. Check out the KTMB website for more details on the service.
