5 people trapped in KFC at Novena Square after staff locked up for the night

Imagine being trapped in KFC for the night. You’d have to sleep on the cold, hard chairs — but then again, you’d also get unrestricted access to all the fried chicken you can eat. Luckily (or unluckily) for two groups of diners, they found themselves stuck at KFC in Novena Square for about an hour on May 29. Apparently, employees at the outlet had locked up for the night, drawing the shutters and turning off the kitchen and counter lights.

Unbeknownst to the staff, five people remained in the dining area, where the lights were still on. A group of three friends were engrossed in conversation, while two other patrons, seeing people at a nearby table, didn’t realise anything was wrong. Only around 10.30pm did they notice their predicament.

Panic overtook them, and they began to yell and bang on the shutters, eventually catching the attention of a bunch of Ngee Ann Polytechnic students walking by. The boys attempted to help by calling the KFC hotline, searching for the mall’s security guards and checking for any open doors at the outlet.

Eventually, the women uncovered a back door in the kitchen and left around 11.15pm, before the police arrived. KFC has since apologised for the incident and extended a free meal to the customers, but got turned down ’cause apparently the offer wasn’t sincere enough.
