UPDATE: Lazada Singapore has since taken down the product listings from their site. 420 erase it.
It’s very much illegal to purchase narcotics online, and you will earn a friendly chat with the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) should you try to do so — but what about drug paraphernalia?
A Redditor on Singapore’s Reddit community expressed alarm at the existence of smoking bongs that have been massively discounted and on sale on e-commerce site Lazada. The silicon bongs come in various pastel colors, are “Easy to carry” and — get this — categorized under “Baby & Toddler Toys”. We guess it’s never too early to learn about weed strains and how to safely toke it.

Another listing of “High Quality Silicone Bongs” sees a cheaper price and a danker camo aesthetic.

Both listings come from a distributor called OEM, a brand that also sells housewares, garbs, and ukuleles — because why not. We’re currently attempting to reach out to Lazada to get their comments on the product listing.

But back to the bongs. The CNB noticed and expressed concern last year about the uptick in the purchase of both controlled drugs and the instruments used to consume them, like weed grinders and smoking bongs. Back in 2009, bongs were openly sold at a pasar malam booth — hawked as a decorative ornament or used to smoke regular legal tobacco.
So are bongs allowed to be purchased and delivered to your doorstep? It lies in the actual usage. According to the Misuse of Drugs Act, it is an offence for a person to have in his possession any pipe, syringe, utensil apparatus or other article intended for the smoking, administration, or consumption of a controlled drug. So much like medical syringes, bongs are probably okay to have unless you’re using them for illegal purposes.
But as is the case for everything you do in Singapore, it’s best to err on the safe side and not purchase the pipes — no matter how dank they look — on Lazada or any online marketplace. (There are so many other ways to make your own DIY bongs anyway, but you didn’t hear it from us, mmkay.)
