41% of Singapore data requests to Yahoo rejected

Following the lead of other internet companies such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Twitter, Yahoo released a transparency report on September 6, detailing the data requests they’ve received and processed from January to July, 2013.

While the number of data requests made by the Singapore government is relatively lower than the other Southeast Asian cities on the list—Hong Kong and Taiwan—a whopping 41% of its requests have been rejected.

According to Yahoo, data requests are rejected when the government agency seeks “information outside its jurisdiction” or the requests only seek data that cannot “be lawfully obtained with the legal process provided”.

Hong Kong and Taiwan have made 800-2000 requests each over the seven-month period.
