4 men arrested for conducting contraband cigarette activities in Woodlands warehouse

Four Malaysian men have been charged in State Courts for their involvement in an elaborate contraband cigarette operation conducted from a warehouse unit at Woodlands Industrial Park.

The blitz carried out by officers of Singapore Customs and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority on Monday saw a total of 3,700 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes worth over $409,000 seized, along with a van and a lorry that the offenders used.

25-year-olds Ng Kuan Hwa and Gooi Chin Lean, 27-year-old Ooi Teik Wei and 21-year-old Tay Chee Yong were arrested at the warehouse during the raid. They had been hiding the cartons of cigarettes in the hollow spaced within 12 concrete barriers.

Court proceedings are ongoing for the four men.
