3 firefighters sent to hospital following Chua Chu Kang construction site dormitory fire

A raging fire consumed a dormitory at a Choa Chu Kang construction site, and thankfully none of the workers were injured. It was the firefighters, however, who needed treatment.

The blaze broke out at a construction site along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1, and it was already well alight when the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived at the scene around 9.35am, TODAY reports. Workers had attempted to put out the fire at the three-storey dormitory at the site using hosereels and fire extinguishers, but failed to put it out prior to SCDF’s arrival.

The fire was extinguished within an hour of their arrival on scene using five water jets and a water monitor deployed from an aerial vehicle during the firefighting operation.

Three firefighters who were dispatched sustained injuries during the operation and have been conveyed to the National University Hospital for treatment.

Investigations are currently ongoing for the case.
