A horrid accident unfolded on a rainy afternoon along Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) last Saturday — two men died and six others were left injured after a van ploughed into several motorcycles.

It was around 3.30pm when the catastrophe transpired. Motorcyclists had sought shelter from the rain under the Seletar Expressway (SLE) flyover, towards Woodlands near the SLE exit. The van caused widespread damage among the throng of bikers — a total of nine motorcycles were involved in the crash, according to various reports.

Two Malaysian motorcyclists were killed — 50-year-old Lok Whay Nam and 34-year-old Lim Chun Hong died on the spot, reports Bernama. Six other Malaysian motorcyclists managed to survive the crash, albeit sustaining head and body injuries. They were treated at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Yishun.

Pictures taken at the scene and spread around on social media displayed a harrowing aftermath — toppled motorcycles; personal items strewn about; the dead and injured lying on the ground half-attired in raincoats. If you have graphic pictures and footage of the victims, do have the decency not to spread them around, please.

As for the driver of the van, he was arrested at the scene for the rash act causing death. 24-year-old Koh Boon Ping has been charged with two counts of causing death by rash act by colliding into motorcyclists at the road shoulder. Now out on bail, Koh is expected to appear in court again on March 27.
