Here’s something worth checking out — any time of the day or night.
A 24-hour hawker centre opens at the Ci Yuan Community Club on Hougang Avenue 9 this Thursday.
It’s a testing ground for a new generation of hawkers, most of whom were enrolled in a three-year entrepreneurship programme under the hawker centre’s managing agent Fei Siong Food Management.
The centre is to be managed on a not-for-profit basis and stalls are required to provide at least two food items within a specific price range based on Fei Siong Food Management’s price guidelines.
So far, the cheapest meal on the menu is $2.80 for a bowl of signature fishball noodles, according to the National Environment Agency.
The new food centre will have 40 cooked food stalls and can seat up to 640 people. It will also introduce a self-payment kiosk at each stall and have child-friendly facilities.
