A 21-year-old national serviceman died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound yesterday at the Special Operations Command building in Queensway, according to media reports.

The police today told reporters the man was found dead in a toilet at about 11am, less than an hour after he had reported for duty and retrieved his revolver from the armory.

“He was later found alone with a gunshot wound to his head in a toilet at the [Special Operations Command] at about 11am. His service revolver was found beside him,” the police said.

The police, who withheld the man’s name, filed the case as an unnatural death and did not suspect any foul play. Investigations are ongoing.

“The police extend our deepest condolences to the family of the late serviceman and are assisting the family in their time of grief,” they said.

It was the second apparent suicide involving a serviceman this month. Just last week, a Singapore Armed Forces serviceman was found hanging in a multistory car park at the Bukit Gombak base.
