More than 200,000 smuggled lobster eggs due for Singapore were recently seized by Indonesian authorities — a load that could have reached US$2.4 million in state losses.

Indonesia’s Special Crimes Directorate foiled the attempt to illegally export the eggs to Singapore via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, reported Jakarta Post yesterday. Authorities confiscated 208,756 lobster eggs which were hidden inside eight suitcases, with 208,500 released on Carita Beach in Banten. The rest have been kept as evidence.

Two individuals are currently questioned by the police in relation to the case, but only one is being charged.
