By 2023, residents at Punggol North will be able to cut their travel time to the city by 15 minutes, thanks to the new Punggol Coast station. The Land Transport Authority said this new station will come with the construction of a 1.6km extension on the North-East Line.

The development was initially slated for 2030, but it has been moved forward to service new estates at Northshore District, Punggol Point District and the Punggol Digital District.

With this new station, the total number of stations on the North-East Line will be upped to 17. Construction on the station is expected to begin in the first half of 2018.
