20-year-old arrested for series of islandwide loanshark harrassment cases

A loanshark on the loose across Singapore has been netted by the police for his suspected involvement in a series of harassment cases.

At 2.05am this morning, Clementi Division police officers had been out patrolling the streets of Clementi West Street 2 and spotted the 20-year-old man loitering suspiciously. Upon further inspections, he was found with loanshark paraphernalia (think spray-cans and other vandalising equipment) and was subsequently arrested.

The young man is believed to have been behind several loanshark harassment cases at HDB estates in Jurong East, Woodlands, Bedok, Sengkang at Tampines. The usual shenanigans — splashing paint on debtor’s units and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of residential units.

He will be charged in court tomorrow — he may face up to a $50,000 and imprisonment of up to five years as well as six strokes of the cane.
