Two Light Rail Transit (LRT) trains along the Sengkang line collided last night, causing its passengers take a tumble, though none were reportedly injured.

STOMP reports that the two trains collided at 7:08PM, and remained stuck to each other for with both the its lights and air-conditioning turned off. It was only after 15 minutes that the trains began to move at a glacial pace to the nearby Renjong LRT station, where passengers disembarked safely.

According to a passenger on one of the trains, folks around her who weren’t holding on to handles and bars fell down from the impact, but no one was hurt. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was not called in for assistance.

Details are scant as of writing, but both SBS Transit and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) have remained strangely silent about the apparent accident. Free shuttle buses weren’t even provided to the affected commuters, according to one passenger.

Edit: Whoops, looks like our reporting got derailed — the LTA has since assured that no such thing happened.

Two sources — STOMP and The Straits Times — were called out for writing the “erroneous and misleading” story, as there was in fact no collision on the Sengkang LRT system. Jokes on us too for recycling that piece of news; we apologise for our mistake.

What actually happened was a coupled two-car train faced sudden stalling, causing passengers to lose their balance, and that may have given the impression that a collision occured. The fault was fixed and the train was safely driven manually to Renjong Station. Thus why no announcements were made, nor were there shuttle services.
