Seemingly getting off on watching couples going on all out public displays of affection a young police officer abused his authority by extorting money from them in exchange for keeping quiet.
The crimes of the full-time national serviceman went beyond disgusting when he moved in to rape one of the girls he was extorting money from.
21-year-old Muhammad Shazwan Sapuwan has since been sentenced to jail for 18 years and given 15 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to rape, oral sex, outrage of modesty and extortion, The Straits Times reports.
On two occasions, Shazwan sneaked up on couples behaving intimately at HDB staircases, recording their trysts on video and demanding money after catching them.
On the third time, he grew bolder. On Oct 24 in 2014, he confronted one intimate couple, identifying himself as a police officer. He asked for their particulars and threatened to report them for public nudity.
After an hour talking to them, he suggested that they repeat their tryst so that he can record it, and use the video to threaten them for money should he lose his job.
Afraid that her parents would find out, the 16-year-old girl convinced her 18-year-old boyfriend to comply. While they were getting intimate, Shazwan fondled the girl’s breast and forced her to perform oral sex on him.
Shazwan then told the boyfriend to have sex with the girl, but he refused. In response, the former police officer raped the girl.
After Shazwan left the scene, he messaged the boyfriend to transfer him $40 by the next morning. Three days later, the girl broke down in school and told her friends about the incident. After some Facebook sleuthing, they found out his identity and lodged a report.
