Support Local: 18 Singapore films will be released in 2014

18 Singapore-made films wil be released in 2014, following a good year for local film and TV that saw director Anthony Chen’s Ilo Ilo soaring to international heights.

10 of the films are the result of collaborations with China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and a select few will be screened exclusively at the coming Asia TV Forum & Market and ScreenSingapore held at Marina Bay Sands from Dec. 4 — 6, in the hopes of generating interest from international buyers.

Some films to expect are Don’t Wayang Mea comedy about a young Indian boy who wants to learn Chinese opera and Jack Neo’s Everybody’s Business.

Television producers will also get the chance to do business matchmaking on the second day of the conference and have their locally-produced television content screened on the third day.

Running concurrently with ATF and ScreenSingapore, the ASEAN Film Festival, which will be held in Singapore for the first time, will screen Ilo Ilo as part of its free public screenings of ASEAN films at Filmgarde, Bugis+ from Dec. 3 — 6.
