18 abandoned dogs rescued at different locations island-wide, all in the same day

Last Wednesday was the start of a “dumping session”, as referred to in an emotional Facebook post by animal welfare group Voices For Animals. First, three dogs were found wandering around a carpark in the Yishun industrial area, suffering from skin issues as a result of neglect. Subsequently, many other small dogs were recovered from various parts of Singapore, including places like Serangoon, Sengkang and Tampines, all in the span of 24 hours.

A total of 18 dogs were rescued by Friday, thanks to volunteers from VFA and Ocean Rescue Group, who searched high and low for hours the night before. It is believed that one man was the cause of the island-wide abandonment of the dogs — he was the one who arranged a meeting with Derrick Tan, president of VFA. The middle-aged man claimed that he was forced by the authorities to “remove the animals”, and so he left the dogs where he thought people would find them and take them in.

As of now, all the pooches are safe, and the owner even surrendered the remaining 12 dogs. Out of the 30 animals, 22 are with VFA, six are with the SPCA, one is with the Animal Lovers League, and one is with an individual rescuer. According to Tan, the man behind this incident agreed to go to the authorities today. Investigations are underway.

If you’re interested in providing a good home for any of these abandoned dogs, drop by VFA’s adoption drive on Apr 2 & 3 from 1pm to 5pm at Mutts & Mittens, 11 Pasir Ris Farmway 2.
