16 weeks’ jail for man who took upskirt photos at Bugis Village with shoe spy camera

A 38-year-old father of two went on a upskirt photo-taking spree at Bugis VIllage last year with his pinhole camera attached to his right shoe.

Renovation contractor Chua Kar Gee has since been jailed for 16 weeks after he admitted to five of 21 charges of insulting the modesty of a woman, The Straits Times reports.

With his newfangled-yet-perverted contraption, Chua took upskirt photos of 21 women in a span of less than three hours on New Year’s Eve last year. His jig was up when police officers observed that he was acting suspicious around women who walks past him at a bus stop. After tailing him for a bit, they saw him sliding his right leg between her legs before walking away.

After being stopped at Bugis MRT station, they found a pinhole camera attached to his shoe, which was in turn attached to a mini video camera hidden in his sock.

Further investigations revealed that Chua had also taken upskirt photos on two previous occasions prior to the day he was caught.

“This category of upskirt offences is a genuine menace,” Deputy Public Prosecutor Senthilkumaram Sabapathy noted of the crime.
