The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) yesterday lauded the efforts of 16 individuals who helped rescue a man who was pinned under a truck earlier in the week.
The video of the incident was uploaded online by Mr Foo Suan Wang and quickly went viral, Channel News Asia reports. Foo filmed it from his sixth-floor office building on thejunction of Bendemeer and Boon Keng Roads.
The rescued man is believed to be a 35-year-old South Korea who was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he reportedly was diagnoed with a leg fracture and underwent surgery.
By Sunday morning, the video had more than 347,000 views and garnered 5,900 shares. The rescuers were lauded for a job well done and were called “Heroes!” by commenters.
LTC Alan Chow, Commander, 1st Division, SCDF, who presented all 16 with certificates at the SCDF’s 1st Division Headquarters, said this incident was “quite an amazing feat”.
“It’s one for humanity. There was no formal coordination, everyone just looked for a space and lifted (the truck) up,” LTC Chow said.
He added that the truck likely weighs “a few tonnes”.
He also pointed out how this incident reveals the importance of bystanders responders, who are able to provide assistance while authorities are on the way to the scene.
One people, one nation, one Singapore.
