He demanded a Rolex watch for his birthday and when his schoolmate said he couldn’t afford it, Chew Wei Xiang, a 16-year-old student at Si Ling Secondary School on Marsiling Lane, asked for a monthly payment instead.
He was able to collect $674 until August last year when his victim finally reported him to the police — but not for the extortion. Chew had assaulted his victim, also aged 16, in the toilet. He punched him in the stomach, slapped him in the face and kicked him in the groin.
Today Chew was sentenced to 15 months’ probation and ordered to complete 150 hours of community service after pleading guilty to one count each of criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt, reports Channel NewsAsia.
He could have been sentenced up to two years in jail and fined up to $50,000 — we’re kinda sorry he didn’t.
