Intoxicated from a night out drinking with friends, a man returned home only to terrorise his domestic helper — he raped the Myanmar national twice in a span of five hours. No one was around to hear her cries, as his wife and children were away on holiday.
For the offence carried out in December 2013, 46-year-old Malaysian Chin Swee Chung has since been sentenced to 13 years in jail and 20 strokes of the cane after he was found guilty of two counts of rape, reports Channel NewsAsia.
In the early morning of Dec 20, Chin returned home and called out to the 35-year-old domestic helper, who was asleep. When she woke up and emerged from her room, Chin pulled her into the master bedroom, pinned her down and raped her.
More than four hours later around 7am, Chin woke up to find her working in the kitchen. Again, he pulled her into his bedroom and raped her.
It was only after Chin left the house to go to work that the maid called her friend for help. On the friend’s advice, she called the police on him, and he was arrested shortly after that.
In court, Chin claimed that she was a willing party — but the victim testified that she had cried and struggled to get away. She was not able to do so as her former employer overpowered her on both occasions.
Chin’s lawyers are planning to appeal his conviction and sentence.
