100 shoppers and tenants evacuated after fire breaks out in watch store at Wisma Atria

A fire broke out at a watch store on the second floor of Orchard Road’s Wisma Atria yesterday, forcing around 100 people to evacuate the shopping mall.

Good thing they got out… in time. *badum tss*

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel arrived at the scene a little after 5.20pm, and quickly put out the blaze that was confined in Masterpiece Time and Jewels.

According to tenants speaking to The Straits Times, nobody really saw flames — just heavy smoke coming out from an air vent. An employee of Masterpiece believes that the fire could have been caused by a short circuit in the electrical wiring in the ceiling.

It was only around 6.30pm that shoppers and tenants were allowed back in.

Wisma Atria is assisting the authorities with the ongoing investigations.
