Making a resounding comeback in August next year is the Singapore Arts Festival, now the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) headed by bigwigs of the local arts and culture scene Lee Chor Lin and Ong Keng Sen. Here’s a quick digest of the plans, based on the story originally written by TODAY:
1. Leading up the main festival is OPEN, a “public art academy” made up of film screenings, talks and public art projects held in June and July. There is likely to be a single pass you can purchase giving you access to all events.
2. The chosen theme is Legacy. According to festival director Ong, the theme deals with issues like the apartheid, Hitler and even medical research.
3. The festival schedule is likely to stick to only about 12 shows (running over six weekends) to prevent ‘festival fatigue’.
4. Amongst these are British composer Michael Nyman’s Facing Goya, The Wooster Group’s Troilus and Cressida, as well as Disabled Theatre by French choreographer Jerome Bel.
5. Plans and commissioning procedures are already in place for 2015, which will bear the theme of “post-Empire” and comprise of largely Singapore works.
