MFA advises Singaporeans to ‘seriously reconsider’ travel to Thailand

By now, you would have probably caught on that not all is sunny in Thailand.

This has prompted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Singapore to issue a travel notice on Friday (May 23), stating that “Singaporeans should seriously reconsider visiting Thailand at the moment”.

“The situation (in Bangkok) is unpredictable and volatile, and may evolve quickly,” the notice reads.

Yesterday, Thai Army chief General Prayut Chan-O-Cha declared martial law and a 10pm curfew nationwide. A MFA spokesman expressed his concern, “as a close friend of Thailand, we hope that the situation will return to normal as soon as possible.”

The MFA urges the public to keep abreast of the changes and developments with regular monitoring of local news. It also encourages Singaporeans in Bangkok to register here so that they may be contacted if the need arises.
