Opening Night: We Are the World — These Are Our Stories

Cultural Medallion recipient Amanda Heng’s first-ever solo gallery exhibition is titled We Are the World — These Are Our Stories, and today marks the opening night for her works. If you can’t make it, there’ll be regular guided tours every Tuesday and Thursday at 11.30am or Saturday at 2pm.

Saturday, Jan 7

Beauty Bar On-The-Go

Garnier is teaming up with GrabShare to bring you free Grab rides, meet-and-greet sessions with online personalities and beauty activities at this pop-up.

11am-3pm at Cineleisure Orchard, outdoor area next to Starbucks. Free.

Chinatown CNY Celebrations 2017 Opening Ceremony & Light-up

Get into the Chinese New Year spirit at Chinatown with dazzling performances, firecrackers and fireworks displays, and vibrant colours as the Year of the Rooster beckons.

6pm-10pm at New Bridge Rd and Eu Tong Sen St. Free.

Dangerous Fest 2017

Tune in to all the local bands with music released by DIY hardcore label Dangerous Goods — the gig includes names like The Caulfield Cult, False Plaintiff, Losing End and Overthrown.

3pm-11pm at Aliwal Arts Centre, 28 Aliwal St. $15.

Plastik Dreams presents ANNA

New year, new pop-up series. This one debuts with Brazil-born ANNA and her brand of techno and tech-house. Get ready to party all the way to the wee hours of the morning.

11pm-late at Basement, 178 Clemenceau Ave. Pre-sale $45; at the door $55, both include one drink.

The Wicked Wallop 2017

Motorcycle fanatics, head on over to Turf Club Road for an exhibition of custom bikes, food and drinks, and music by bands like Brothers in Blues, Rock City and Trix O Treat.

Sunday, Jan 8

Happy Birthday, Bowie

To celebrate the late David Bowie’s birthday 70 years ago, The Projector is putting on a one-time screening of Labyrinth. So dress in your Bowie best and head over to check out limited vinyl specials and Bowie-inspired artworks.

2pm-8pm at The Projector. $11.50-$13.50.

Soul Street Party

Go old school with soul, R&B, funk and pop tunes by Joe & The Soul Express as the band takes over the street for a Sunday party.

6pm-10pm at Red Baron in Gillman Barracks. Free.
