Christmas festivities

It’s already the second weekend of December, which means we should all be knee-deep in festive feasts and riotous revelry. So check out our list of top 14 festivities to get you in the holiday mood — from Christmas markets and Santa parades to winter wonderland floral displays and glittering light displays to shopping fairs and street parties.

Enabling Village

‘Tis the season of giving, so stop by the Enabling Village this month to pick up one-of-a-kind gifts, as well as contribute to a good cause. Brought to you by The Art Faculty by Pathlight, the space encompasses an art gallery, an artist studio, a retail area, a workshop section, and an art cafe. Items on sale crafted by special needs students include everything from leather card holders to passport covers.

Every Mon-Sat, 9am-7pm at #01-07 Village Green, 20 Lengkok Bahru. Free. 

MAAD at Marina Bay

Now that the Red Dot Design Museum has moved over to the Marina Bay area, its market of artists and designers will now offer waterfront views for those keen to check out local crafts.

Until Dec 10; 3pm-10pm at the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade, in front of the Red Dot Design Museum. Free.

Santa’s Little Helper

Seven-year-old Albert Tuttle, whose belief in Santa Claus is gradually fading away, is in for the shock of his life when a big, fat man in red PJs tumbles down his chimney on Christmas Eve in this sing-along performance from the UK.

The Great Escape presents Mis-Shapes

Kickstart the weekend with the sounds of punk, new wave, indie, grunge, alternative, ’80s synth-pop, and everything in between with the likes of Suzy Q, DJ11, Sham, and Baba Crucified on the line-up.

8pm-late at The Great Escape rooftop car park, Golden Mile Tower. Free. 

The Nutcracker

The Singapore Dance Theatre’s Christmas ballet performance follows the adventures of Clara and the Nutcracker doll as they encounter the likes of the Mouse King, the Snow Queen, and the Sugar Plum Fairy along their magical journey.

Until Dec 10; Fri-Sat 8pm, Sat-Sun 1pm, Sun 7pm at Esplanade Theatre. $35-$75.

ZoukOut

Dance to the beat of techno, trance, house, and EDM by the likes of Marshmello, AxwellˆIngrosso, Yellow Claw, DJ Snake, Rich Chigga, R3hab, and loads more at the 17th edition of the beach rave.

Saturday, Dec 9

Corrinne May: Open Stage Live Music Series

The lovely local songbird will perform a free 45-minute set along the waterfront, so head over for some soothing tunes and evening entertainment.

9:15pm-10pm at Event Plaza, Marina Bay Sands. Free.

Flying Through Time

Tiger, the guardian of the Great Magic Rod, leaps through a time portal from ancient Korea to modern-day Singapore to pursue the relic, which has been stolen by villain Dark X in this stunt-filled performance starring local talents alongside international martial artists and gymnasts.

Snow Worries

The family-friendly pantomime whisks audiences away on young Mickey’s escapades in battling the evil Ebeneeza Freeza, who’s intent on freezing the world just so he can sell his newest invention: hot ice cream.

Sunday, Dec 10

Chefs For A Cause

Organized by non-profit organization Project Happy Feet, this third edition unites 12 noteworthy local chefs to plate up 23 of their signature dishes in an effort to raise S$70,000 to support the SPED Financial Assistance Scheme. Menu items to expect include assam pedas meatball sliders, tacos stuffed with Chinese duck, kimchi, and beansprout, Horlicks cheesecake pop, and braised beef short ribs.

1:30pm-late at Novotel Singapore on Stevens. VIP $300/two people, adults $50, children $10.
