Instead of waiting in line with everyone else to watch the latest big-screen installation of Star Wars, one man took matters into his own hands like a true Sith by booking out a 170-seater movie theatre for a private screening to host all his loved ones.
Die-hard Star Wars fan — and a wealthy one at that — Alex Low watched The Last Jedi for the third time last night at Golden Village Suntec City surrounded by his friends, family, and fellow members of Ferrari owners’ Club Singapore. TODAY reported that the 49-year-old car workshop and credit management firm boss didn’t even hesitate to fork out S$2,800 for the private screening that included drinks and popcorn for his guests.
“I just want more people to love Star Wars,” he said to TODAY. His passion was sparked by Force (get it? ok.) when he watched A New Hope at the now-defunct Odeon Cinema in the ‘80s, but this would hardly be the first time he held a private screening — the man hosted about 30 close friends at a Golden Village Gold Class theatre to watch The Force Awakens in 2015.
Lest you think that it’s just another rich dude throwing money around, Low actually intended to book a 300-seater theatre to invite the underprivileged to the screening, but the man found the bigger theatres already occupied. To be honest, he could still book out another smallish theatre just for underprivileged guests, so yeah. Do, or do not; there is no try.
