National Day is just around the corner, in case you haven’t noticed the MRT trains decked out in red and white or the malls blaring every conceivable cheesy National Day Parade song. So to get you in the mood, here’s a groovy medley by local a cappella outfit MICappella, featuring the evolution of NDP tunes.

The mash-up includes English and Mandarin tracks from parades past and present, taking you from ‘Five Stars Arising’ (1969) to ‘Stand Up For Singapore’ (1984) to everyone’s favorite ‘Home’ (1998) to this year’s unfortunate-sounding, painfully bland ‘Because It’s Singapore’.

Judging by the overwhelmingly positive response on social media, Singaporeans probably preferred MICappella’s remixed rendition to the originals (the newer ones, at least).

For those who wondered why the group left out Tamil and Malay songs, MICappella pointed out an older NDP medley they did in 2013, featuring familiar tunes like ‘Di Tanjong Katong’ and ‘Munnaeru Vaalibaa’. Watch it below for more patriotic feels.
