The Ultimate Halloween Party Guide 2016: All the best spooky ragers and freaky festivals

It’s that time of the year again, where you get to throw all inhibitions to the wind and dress up as something crazy/weird/trending. Yes, it’s Halloween, and our city has got plenty of fright fests and costume parties up its sleeve. From zombies and aliens to ghosts and monsters, all the creatures of the night are coming alive just for the month.

And you know what that means – it’s time to get your freak on.

For a hair-raising good time

1919 Ghost Ship — The Boathouse of Bane

Photo: The Rooftop Bar

This ghoulish gathering offers up crazy shot concoctions in the form of the 7 Deadly Sins. Think apple sour for ‘envy’, grenadine and tequila for ‘wrath’, peach schnapps, grenadine and Baileys for ‘gluttony’, and the like.

Oct 28 & 29, 7pm-late at The Rooftop Bar at 1919 Waterboat House, #03-01 The Waterboathouse, 3 Fullerton Rd. Free entry and one free drink for those in costume, otherwise it’s $20 with one free drink.

Asia Ghost Stories

Photo: Attica

Intrigued by Asian ghosts? Step into Attica for three days’ worth of parties, starting with Naughty Nightmares on Wednesday, where there’ll be goth makeup and nail services, as well as a Halloween bar for you to go trick or treating. On Friday, lost souls will wander throughout the club’s premises, and Saturday sees your worst Asian ghost nightmares (think pontianaks and Sadakos) waiting in dark corners to terrify you.

Oct 26-29, 10.30pm-late at Attica, #01-03 Clarke Quay, 3A River Valley Rd. The best dressed costumes of each night will win a $500 Attica credit voucher to be used at the club.

Atlantis Fright Night

You know you’re gonna get soaking wet when you sign up for a party at Wavehouse, so throw on your best beach wear and make your way to Sentosa for a splashin’ time and a whole lotta EDM.

Battle royale: Halloween 2016

Squeeze into your coolest fighting gear, jump into the ring and ready yourself for a Halloween smack down (or dance off). You gotta channel your inner Bruce Lee/Jackie Chan to battle it out for the title of king of the ring – or you could just chillax by the side and groove to beats by DJ KFC and KiDG. Just remember: The first rule of fight club is, you do not talk about fight club. Oh, and whoever dons the most badass threads will get a Bali vacay.

Oct 29, 10pm-late at OverEasy Orchard, #01-01 Liat Towers, 541 Orchard Rd. Free.

Carnevil

Party-goers at last year’s Halloween bash

Feel that chill run down your spine? It’s the nefarious glare of The Ringmaster, who draws crowds into the evil carnival to trap them amidst the skulking creatures that roam the night. Head up to the 1-Altitude rooftop bar for a freak show experience, or spend the witching hour at Altimate downing The Creepy Carnival cocktails ($18) — either way, be sure to dress your scariest best for free entry.

Oct 29, 5.30pm-late at 1-Altitude, 10pm-late at Altimate, 1 Raffles Place. $45 for 1-Altitude, $40 for Altimate, both include one Carnevil cocktail and one premium pour. Dress up in full costume for free entry.

Cirque Le Soir

Photo: Cirque Le Soir

Go all out and shimmy into your most extravagant, outlandish costume so you won’t look out of place when the circus arrives. Mystical and magical, Cirque Le Soir will unleash its band of spellbinding magicians, freaky clowns, sword swallowers, exotic dancers and nimble acrobats at the rooftop bar for a night of enchanting entertainment.

Oct 29, 9pm-late at CE LA VI, SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands, 1 Bayfront Ave. Online pre-sale $48, at the door $68, both include one premium pour.

Cirque The Cathay

Unfazed by the bizarre ‘clown attack’ craze in the US, Australia and New Zealand? Then perhaps this clown-themed haunted maze won’t scare you either. Inspired by one of the most iconic clowns in film, Pennywise (better known as ‘It’) from the Stephen King adaptation, this night of horrors throws you into the labyrinth with psychotic clowns at your heels.

Oct 20-23, 5pm-9pm at L1, External Atrium of The Cathay, 2 Handy Rd; and Oct 27-30, 5pm-9pm at Basement Atrium of Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, 8 Grange Rd. Present a spending receipt (min $5) from The Cathay or Cathay Cineleisure Orchard on event day for entry.

Doomsday Party

This party wants you to say, ‘screw that shit’ to every crappy thing that happened this year and just dance. Here, it’s all about ’90s and ’00s tunes, plus people in their creepiest doomsday-themed outfits (selfie-obsessed millennial costume also accepted).

Oct 29, 10pm-late at Blu Jaz Cafe, 11 Bali Ln. $10.

Ghost Ship 1017 Halloween Party

Step on board a bewitched ship, haunted by an 1800s tragedy that claimed the lives of everyone on the boat. Now the souls are awakening from their centuries-long slumber, just in time for All Hallows Eve, to greet you as you walk among them. Start off your spine-tingling experience with a dinner buffet, then an extreme makeover and a ghost run, followed by a party on the top deck – you might have so much fun, you won’t wanna leave.

Oct 29, 6pm-late at Stewords Riverboat, 31 Marina Coastal Drive, Berth 1 Marina South Pier. $40-$60.

Halloween Highball: Heroes and Villains

Bar-hop your way through Halloween at the watering holes of Peranakan Place, and get in on the freaky fun by donning a crazy costume in exchange for a complimentary Citrus Highball cocktail. Plus, the best dressed winner gets prizes like a boutique hotel staycation and cash vouchers of up to $500.

Oct 29; 7pm-late at various bars including Acid Bar, Alley Bar, Black Nut and Odd One Out at Peranakan Place, 180 Orchard Rd. Free.

Halloween Horror Nights 6

Enter at your own risk

The fright fest you’ve been waiting for all year is finally here, and it’s got five haunted houses – with themes like Old Changi Hospital, Salem Witch House and Hawker Centre Massacre – two scare zones and two live shows for you to scream your lungs out. Loads of monstrous fiends for you to feast your eyes on, too. And don’t worry if your heart starts racing a little too fast – you can always escape to the safe zones to take a breather.

Until Oct 31; various times and dates at Universal Studios Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa. Tickets from $51.

Halloween in the Tropics: Vampire Night

Any blood-suckers in the house? Throw on your capes and dance to the beat of modern reggae and spooky soul by DJ SoulRocka, or try your luck at the Trick or Treat beer pong table to win devilish drinks.

Oct 29, 7pm-late at Bar Canary, L4 Grand Park Orchard, 270 Orchard Rd. Free. Drinks from $10++ each.

Slaughter House

Fancy a horror-filled night running away from psychos with chainsaws? Well, you won’t get that here (not really), but what you will experience is a sick party with heart-thumping beats all night long.

Oct 28 & 29, 10pm-late at f.Club Singapore, #01-08 The Foundry, Clarke Quay, 3B River Valley Rd. $50, includes one drink.

*SCAPE Museum of Horrors VI: The Doll Factory

This is the worst type of horror story – the true kind. Adapted from the stuff nightmares are made of, the bone-chilling tale follows a maniacal doll maker who murdered his loved ones to keep them forever as dolls. So be careful when you walk into the haunted factory – watch out for undead creatures in the seven diabolical chambers waiting to scare the crap out of all you thrill seekers.

Oct 26-Nov 6, 7pm-10pm at *SCAPE The Ground Theatre, 2 Orchard Link. Early bird $9.90, standard $15.

The Official Singapore Halloween Pub Crawl

Easily bored by the wicked shenanigans at whatever spook fest your buddies always drag you to? Try this ghoulish pub crawl instead. Pop by three secret venues, down free shots, get sloshed on happy hour cocktails, and dance up a storm in the party bus. Don’t forget to get in character either – there’s no fun in a Halloween-themed pub crawl without crazy costumes.

Oct 29, 7.30pm-11.30pm at meeting place at the fat pigeon sculpture by UOB Plaza, 80 Raffles Place. Pre-sale $50/person, $90/two, $160/four, at the door $55.

Zouk Halloween 2016: The Scream Diner

YouTube video

Zouk’s Halloween bashes are legendary (well, pretty much most parties at the longstanding nightclub are), and this year’s is no different. Harken back to 1952, when The Scream Diner was a popular place bustling with life… until people started disappearing and the owner/prime suspect went missing. Intrigued? Put together your most creative outfit and rock up to the cursed diner for a chance to win stuff like ZoukOut VIP tickets and flights around the region for more partying madness.

Oct 29, 10pm-late at Zouk, 17 Jiak Kim St. Men $38, women $33, includes two drinks. Free and priority entry to those in full costume.

Is that… a mermaid?? Photo: Wildlife Reserves Singapore

Halloween doesn’t have to be scary, and this family-friendly costume party is where you can bring your little ones to show them just that. They’ll get to mingle with aliens and monsters, watch a live animal presentation and marvel at a choreographed underwater musical performance by mermaids, as well as hit up activity booths to solve mysteries and try their hand at crafts.

Oct 21-30, Fri-Sun 6pm-10pm at River Safari, 80 Mandai Lake Rd. Adults $18-$22, children $5-$10.

Spooky Seas

A swashbuckling experience awaits at the aquarium/pirates’ lair, with treasure trails, skeleton wanderers, gypsy storytellers, spooky divers and creepy craft classes galore.

Super Social BBQ

Photo: Super Social BBQ at Timbre/Facebook

It’s all about Halloween at this month’s series of weekend barbecues, which feature a best-dressed contest, a backyard pumpkin patch, hay bales and pumpkin carving activities. Your regular Timbre bands will also take the stage, and other activities include bouncy castles, arts and crafts, and face painting sessions.

Until Oct 30, Sat 4pm-8pm, Sun 3pm-7pm at Timbre @ Gillman, 9A Lock Rd. Free.

The Singapore Halloween Festival 2016: Thriller in the Park

Head into the woods – okay, the greenery of Fort Canning Park – to immerse yourself in nature and all the things there that go bump in the night. Think of it as an outdoors picnic with a ghostly twist – expect carnival vibes, eerie beats by a roster of DJs, pop-up stalls, a kids zone with shows, a flea market, a mock cemetery, dance parties and a cosplay competition. Plus, the crowning jewel of the event is a zombie maze – Singapore’s first ever – where you get to pretend like you’re in The Walking Dead (or is it real life?) and blast the monsters with weapons. Pretty cool stuff.

Oct 29, 11am-11pm at Fort Gate, Fort Canning Park. Standard $25, VIP $150; children under 12 enter for free.
