As many fans of the Assassin’s Creed video game series would attest, the best parts of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag would be its seafaring segments, where the player takes to the ocean for some good ol’ plundering, sailing and naval combat.

Not many would know however that the nautical portions of Black Flag were in fact done by Ubisoft’s team in Singapore, who lovingly produced the naval battle gameplay in the game. An exhibition was even held last month at the National Design Centre, where the Singapore studio showcased the process, research and art in crafting the game.

Yesterday, the Little Red Dot made it’s mark in the gaming world at Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017 (the industry’s biggest conference and show, mind you) with the first blockbuster game developed by Ubisoft Singapore: Skull & Bones. Basically, taking all of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’s best parts and turning it into a full-fledged swashbuckling epic.

Scheduled to launch in 2018 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, Skull & Bones is described as an open world multiplayer pirate game set in 1721, where players captain fleets of warships, build crews, and take to the sea to do battle for supremacy.

Pretty epic stuff for a studio based here, and totally apt, too, considering Singapore’s history as a pirate port and our modern love for pirated content.
