The Sam Willows appear to be “taking a break,” and their fans are taking it pretty hard.

All four members of the pop band have taken to social media this week to hint at what appears to be at least a temporary parting of ways – with no definitive date for a reunion. The Sam Willows, a top act in Singapore for a solid half-decade now, is comprised of siblings Narelle and Benjamin Kheng, and their friends Sandra Riley Tang and Jonathan Chua.

Tang, who recently released her debut single Burn, posted this picture to Instagram along with lyrics to the Vera Lynn classic We’ll Meet Again.

Narelle Kheng who also stepped into the solo spotlight with the single Outta My Head, thanked her fellow band members in this emotional post.

Benjamin Kheng, who’s been busy recently with acting projects, wrote this cryptic caption: “goodbye is not the end x.”

Newlywed Jonathan Chua echoed similar views and wrote: “Bittersweet moment. It’s goodbye for now.”

So safe to say, they’re splitting up … at least for now.

The Sam Willows first broke into the local music scene in 2012 with the release of their first mini album. They went on to capture the hearts of a much bigger with their first full studio album Take Heart in 2015 and its 2018 follow-up I Know, But Where.

The local pop darlings even landed themselves a coveted spot on the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list this year.

Since hitting their stride, members of the band have been active not only as a unit, but individually, with projects ranging from music to movies to variety shows to ad campaigns.

It’s still uncertain if the Sam Willows are headed for a proper breakup, but fans of the quartet can take heart as the band are among the performers who helped create this year’s National Day Parade theme song and expected to reunite on stage to perform it in August.

Still, that seems cold comfort for the fanbase, who have taken to social media to express their grief at the turn of events.
