Sun, sand, movies — just as Mother Nature intended. After selling out its previous two editions, Peroni Sunset Cinema returns to Tanjong Beach this May with a line-up of new buzzed-about films, from thrillers and dramas to Oscar winners/nominees and true life tales.

In the mood for a light-hearted comedy? Instant Family combines the comedic prowess of Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne as they go from zero to three kids overnight and fumble about in their new parent roles. For something suspenseful, watch Liam Neeson do what he does best — track down the drug cartel behind his son’s murder in Cold Pursuit.

If you caught all the action at yesterday’s Academy Awards, perhaps you’ll be pleased to find Bohemian Rhapsody and its Best Actor winner Rami Malek on the program. Or not, since the Freddie Mercury biopic has amassed so much controversy along the way, from its erasure of fired director Bryan Singer from existence to one particular scene that questioned its Best Editing win.

But the show must go on, and if you want more of that smoldering chemistry between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper when they performed “Shallow” at the Oscars, get your tickets for A Star Is Born. Or check out its fellow Oscar nominee Can You Ever Forgive Me? for a look at Melissa McCarthy’s movie adaptation of celebrity biographer Lee Israel’s memoir.

However, if you were looking forward to seeing Best Picture winner Green Book, it’s unfortunately the only film with two screenings that have completely sold out. Better luck next time, maybe?

Other titles in the selection include Widows, a crime thriller revolving around four women left with nothing but a debt from their dead husbands’ corrupted activities; A Private War, chronicling the life of a war journalist, the fearless Marie Colvin; and The Old Man and The Gun, Robert Redford’s final role before retirement in a true story about a career robber who escaped from prison multiple times.

Also look out for Clint Eastwood as a down-and-out man who unknowingly signed up to be a drug courier for a Mexican cartel in The Mule, and Emma Thompson in The Children Act, where she faces a decision that could change a teenager’s life. Plus, the origin story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg comes to life with the duo of Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer in On The Basis of Sex.

Oh, and those who detest pesky whispers disrupting films can rest easy here, with individual noise-canceling wireless headphones that allow you to watch the movie in total control of your own volume.

To make the most of your evening, arrive a little earlier (gates open at 5pm) and grab a bite to eat before the screening starts. DJs will be behind the decks with tropical tunes, Tanjong Beach Club will be on hand with dinner dishes and snack options, and the bar will serve Peroni, wine, cider, and non-alcoholic beverages. After the event, complimentary shuttle buses are available to take you back to the train station between 9:15pm and 10:30pm, so you don’t get lost wandering around the wilderness of Sentosa.
