NTUC FairPrice has officially launched its largest FairPrice Xtra “hypermarket” combined with a Unity Pharmacy outlet at VivoCity, and like its name suggests, it’s got all the extra trimmings on top of what you’ve come to expect from the brand. Taking over the unit left behind by Giant, it covers 90,000 sq ft of space at the basement of the mall, with produce sections, dine-in areas, bicycle and luggage repair services, and even a play area for kids.

To differentiate the store from others, it features Peranakan motifs in its design, and incorporates elements like a millennial pink ice cream truck stocked with brands like Lotte, Morinaga, and Kochi Ice, an indoor hydroponics farm that grows eight types of veggies for sale, and a kids’ play castle.

Besides the usual array of groceries, FairPrice Xtra also offers food prep service for no extra charge, meaning you could get your veggies sliced, or your meats and seafood marinated or grilled to eat on-the-go.

Other F&B offerings include eateries like Culina, Reverse Beer Tap, Tiong Hoe Coffee, and The Sushi Shop in its culinary corner, a bigger selection of organic and international foods, and a section where you can fill up your bags with nuts, spices, and pastas, and pay only for what you buy.

At the leisure and hobbies zone, you’ll find BBQ equipment, gardening supplies, and bicycle customization services, while the “tourist” section displays luggage bags, local souvenirs, and travel accessories.

For healthcare and wellness, the pharmacy provides services like blood pressure measurement and body composition analysis, as well as virtual make-up tools at the beauty studio, where shoppers can get their skin analyzed.

It’s on the high-tech side, too, with automated robot cleaners by local company Lionsbot International sweeping and mopping the floors daily. Oh, and there’s a “scan and go” app that you can use to skip those dreaded check-out queues, plus a soon-to-launch “endless aisle” concept that will allow customers to buy products not featured in the store and have them delivered to their homes.

If you haven’t yet been charmed by the convenience of online grocers, or bought over by the similarly tech-savvy supermarket that is habitat by honestbee, perhaps this massive new store will appeal to you.

FairPrice Xtra and Unity Pharmacy are at #01-23 & #B2-23 VivoCity, 1 Harbourfront Walk.

FairPrice Xtra: Daily 8am-11pm, Unity Pharmacy: Daily 9am-10:30pm.
MRT: HarbourFront
