For those of us mere mortals who’ve always wondered what it’s like to fly a supersonic jet or blast off to space for a panoramic view of Earth, one new exhibition may help offer some answers. In collaboration with aerospace company Boeing and Evergreen Exhibitions, the Science Centre is hosting an interactive flight exhibition called Above and Beyond for the next couple months.

After its debut in the United States, the traveling installation — supported by NASA and the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum — has embarked on a tour around the globe, with Singapore as its first Southeast Asian pitstop.
Spanning 5,000 sq ft and five themed galleries — Up, Faster, Higher, Further, and Smarter — Above and Beyond provides a glimpse into aerospace innovation over the years through augmented reality, flight simulation, design and skill challenges, and virtual reality.

Check out activity highlights such as designing and testing a supersonic fighter jet in a virtual high-speed flying simulation, taking a simulated elevator ride to space, soaring to orbit for a 360-degree view of Earth, journeying to Mars, and encountering first-hand the applications of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

Other experiences include a panoramic theatre featuring a three-minute video about humans’ quest to go beyond the limits of flight, a timeline showing flight innovators and innovations, a group flying activity where motion sensors and computer graphics transform visitors into flying birds, and a mission to clean up orbital debris from space.
Above and Beyond is on from Dec 16-April 8, 2018, 10am-6pm at Hall C, Science Centre Singapore. Free, with admission to Science Centre. Note: From 2018, the Science Centre will be closed every Monday.
