Tech lovers launch SimLim.sg to make shopping easier and scam-free at Sim Lim Square

We’ve all heard of horror stories on the news — and even from friends and family — about some of Sim Lim Square’s price-gouging retailers. Singapore’s tech mecca may be rife with supremely wallet-friendly gadgets, computers and electronics, but alas, conniving folks like Jover Chew and co. have tarnished the reputation of the mall.

One of the ways regular Sim Lim shoppers avoid getting scammed is to collect copious amounts of flyers that used to be given out near escalators — these were price lists of all the gadgets available at the mall, and they could be used to find the best deals.

Non-geeks and tourists, however, aren’t too familiar with the tricks of finding the best tech bargains in Sim Lim. Knowing that Sim Lim Square is a geek’s paradise despite its messy layouts and hidden alleys, four tech geeks came together to launch a price comparison platform called SimLim.sg.

Quite simply, it’s a site for Sim Lim Square lovers by Sim Lim Square lovers.

“Because where others see some chaotic and messy place, we geeks see Paradise,” they wrote on their Facebook page. “We see a place where we can get pretty much any component or gadget we want, whenever we want it, without having to wait for delivery or paying insane margins to big stores.”

Referencing over 5,000 products (and counting), they wanted to make price transparency the utmost focus of their new site, citing 54 of the best shops in the mall (shout out to Fuwell and PC Themes Technology Pte Ltd). The prices listed on the site will also be updated every two weeks, and should make shopping a breeze there — just check the site for what you need and head down to the specific shop at the mall. It’s still a new site so its not as comprehensive as we’d like it to be — but at least there’s no more going to each store at every level to find the cheapest offer, and no more getting ripped off by the Jover Chews of the world.
