Supreme madness: Hundreds get in line for Supreme x Louis Vuitton collection; queue numbers hawked on Carousell hours later

The Supreme x Louis Vuitton collection has been hotly anticipated here, to say the least. A couple of supremely excited (and slightly confused) fans had started a queue outside Louis Vuitton’s Ion Orchard store last Friday for tomorrow’s launch — eventually, they were told to leave (because it’s madness, even by Singapore standards, to wait in line and skip work/school/life for an entire week).

If you’re not up-to-date with the fashion scene, here’s a quick lowdown. The collection includes apparel and accessories, with items like denim jackets, leather backpacks, and iPhone cases. Even though LV declined to reveal any local prices, a quick check on Hypebeast shows bank-emptying price tags in Europe, with the simple but coveted box logo t-shirt going for €390 (S$614). Of course, if you’re swimming in cash, you might as well go for gold and get the storage trunk for a whopping €50,000 (S$78,718).

So anyway, hundreds of people got in line in the wee hours of this morning (Jul 13) for a chance to get their hands on raffle tickets that would, in turn, allow them to get their hands on the luxury brand’s collaboration with the streetwear label. That’s right — shoppers actually had to queue to get a randomly-generated ballot number between 1 and 350 that would give them entrance to Friday’s collection launch.

This crowd-control move means that those unlucky ones without a ticket would have to wait until every single ticket holder shops to his/her heart’s content before entering and picking up whatever scraps are left.

Unfortunately for 17-year-old Muhammad Syahir Mohamad Tahir, who was the very first person in line since 6pm on Wednesday, his waiting turned out to be in vain, as his ballot number was 630.

But there’s still hope, because of course resellers turned up on Carousell just hours after the queue tickets (which were given out for free, mind you) were released this morning, offering queue spots in exchange for a couple hundred bucks to a few thousand.

However, it seems like queue numbers were tagged to individual identification cards, and each person is only allowed a haul of five items, according to fashion blogger Bagaholicboy. As always, when it comes to reseller items, tread carefully.
