The Six Senses brand — known for its luxurious resorts in untouched destinations across the globe — will debut in Singapore this year with its first city hotels. Divided into two buildings, both restored as part of a conservation project, Six Senses Duxton and Six Senses Maxwell are within walking distance of one another in the Chinatown area.
Developed by the Bangkok-based hotel chain in collaboration with Satinder Garcha and Harpreet Bedi of Garcha Hotels — the couple behind The Vagabond Club (previously known as Hotel Vagabond) — the sleek concepts will take over the space initially intended for boutique hotel The Duxton Club (which looks like it either never got the chance to open or underwent a name change some time in the last few months).
The cozy Six Senses Duxton, styled by British interior designer Anoushka Hempel (of London’s Hempel and Blake’s hotels fame), features 49 guest rooms and suites, with no two rooms alike. Highlights of the eclectic space include a restaurant serving up Chinese cuisine, an antique library-themed lobby bar, a kimono suite, and a traditional Chinese doctor on-site to offer readings, health recommendations, and medicinal herbs.
As for Six Senses Maxwell, the bigger property spans 138 guest rooms and suites, alongside a Six Senses Spa, an outdoor lap pool, a champagne bar and lounge, a whiskey bar, a boardroom, a club lounge, and a verandah decked out with tropical foliage. Subject to the creativity of French architect and designer Jacques Garcia, the decor pays tribute to the era that the colonial-style buildings were constructed, but featuring a modern twist.
If you’re already mapping out your staycation plan for the year, keep tabs on these two hotels, with the Duxton one due to open in April, followed by the Maxwell development three months later.
