First, there was Six Senses Duxton, which opened earlier this year in the Chinatown neighborhood. Now, complementing its sister site, Six Senses Maxwell is slated to launch on Dec 1 at its heritage building just minutes away. Together, both boutique properties will make up Six Senses Singapore.
Setting itself apart from designer Anouska Hempel’s eclecticism stamped all over Six Senses Duxton, the 120-key Maxwell space is restored and embellished by French architect and designer Jacques Garcia, blending the modern and the traditional. It’s situated in a colonial-style 19th century structure, one that has received the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Architectural Heritage Award.
Known for styling properties like The NoMad New York City and L’oscar London, Garcia puts his baroque flair across the hotel’s seven room categories, from the brass, lacquer, and marble mini bars to yet more designer brand fittings, such as Lefroy Brooks bathroom fixtures.
On the ground floor, you’ll find four dining concepts including Murray Terrace, a European-style brasserie; Cook & Tras, a social library restaurant and bar serving Straits cuisine; Rose Lounge & Bar, where guests can lounge around and drink glasses of bubbly; and Garcha’s, a watering hole stocked with spirits like small batch and artisanal whisky, tequila, gin, rum, and vodka.
If you’re not chilling out at the outdoor terrace and admiring the tropical foliage, there’s also an old-fashioned ice cream tricycle inside to check out. And upstairs, they’ve got a rooftop area with “Max’s Edible Garden,” a lap pool, and gym.
Six Senses Spa Pods will also be opening at Maxwell in early 2019, with services like massages and facials, alongside yoga classes and personal training sessions. Guests at Maxwell can also swing by Duxton (and vice versa) for its traditional Chinese medicine consultations and tea appreciation sessions.
