SingPost planning to launch Singapore’s first online shopping mall at Paya Lebar

In a plan that could either fall flat or prove to be a hit, SingPost is developing the nation’s first shopping mall that merges both online and offline shopping under one roof.

Their groundbreaking ceremony kicked off this morning at  the open concourse in front of Singapore Post Centre, located next to Paya Lebar MRT station. Boasting 25,000 square metres of retail space, the mall is said to disrupt traditional retail concepts for both consumers and sellers alike. Shoppers will be able to browse in-store IRL, purchase the product and arrange for its delivery directly to their home. Retailers won’t have to worry about stocks or space in their store as the product can be sent straight from their warehouse.

“With the new retail mall at SPC, consumers can enjoy the best of both worlds — online and offline — while businesses can potentially cut costs and focus on enhancing customer experiences,” says SingPost’s Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Wolfgang Baier. “This is an important shift in mindsets as well as the retail and eCommerce landscapes. ”

This new $150 million shopping mall will comprise of four levels and one basement of retail and F&B stores, an eight-hall Golden Village cineplex and SingPost’s flagship post office. Expect to see it up and running in the middle of 2017.
