Legendary rapper Snoop Dogg is ending the year with a bang by roping in artists from around the world for his latest music project, including Singapore’s very own Yung Raja.
The 26-year-old Singaporean has been featured on the “global edition” of Snoop Dogg’s latest album Algorithm, performing Qualified alongside American rapper Larry June and R&B singer October London. Other international artists on the album include Malaysian rapper Joe Flizzow, South Korean singer Saay, as well as acts from Italy, Germany and South Africa.
“I would’ve never in a million years thought of being on the same record as someone as legendary as Snoop Dogg,” Yung Raja was quoted in today’s news release. “As a Singaporean Tamil boy[,] this is definitely one of the most iconic moments in my life. I’m so grateful I get to share this with you.”
In the four-minute track, the Singaporean rapper whose song Mami was once featured on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, can be heard spitting verses in English and Tamil. He is signed to Def Jam Southeast Asia and Alamo Records.
Snoop Dogg, who has produced nearly 20 studio albums and was recently hired by Def Jam as executive creative and strategic consultant, released the 25-track album Algorithm on Nov. 19 before dropping the global edition today, essentially consisting of the same songs but with additional sounds from those international acts. Notable stars Ice Cube, E-40, Too $hort, Ty Dolla $ign and Mary J. Blige are also on the album, which Snoop Dogg said was intended to include a mix of hip hop’s pioneers and newer generation artists to change the game “by bringing feeling back into music.”
“Right now, the algorithm is telling us you have to rap this way, you have to sound this way, but they’re not telling you how it’s supposed to feel. My algorithm is going to give you a feeling, not a sound,” he said in the news release.
